GEORGIANS AND MONGOLIANS

During a power struggle in 1174, Ani fell under the rule of the Georgians. Giorgi III and later his daughter Princess Tamara ruled Ani for a long time. In 1200 the Georgians became sole sovereigns of Kars and Ani, a period that ended with the arrival of the Mongolians, who dominated the whole area including Ani and Kars after the 1231 Kose Mountain war.
